1. Who we are
Azure Driver is an app for keeping track of your vehicles: fuel, service, parts, insurance, notes, reminders and trips. It is built and operated by an independent developer in Ontario, Canada (“we”, “us”). The app talks only to our own server, which we run ourselves.
We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and its fair information principles. The developer is accountable for the personal information in Azure Driver and acts as its privacy officer. You can reach them at privacy@azuredriver.com.
2. What we collect
We only collect what the app needs to work. Most of it is information you choose to enter.
| Information | Why |
|---|---|
| Account: name, email address, password (stored only as a one-way hash), and your Apple ID identifier if you use Sign in with Apple | To create your account, sign you in, and send password-reset and email-change codes |
| Your garage: vehicles (make, model, year, VIN, plate, colour), odometer readings, fill-ups, service and parts records, costs, insurance policies and claims, purchase details, notes and reminders | This is the app's purpose: to keep your records and show reminders, trends and totals |
| Photos and receipts you attach | To keep them with the record they belong to |
| Location, only if you allow it: trips you record, and places you save (such as home or work) | Trip logs and distances, gas-station reminders, and local weather |
| Device information: device name and model, app version, whether Apple Intelligence is available on it, and a push notification token | To list your signed-in devices, send the notifications you turn on, keep the app compatible with the server, and know which AI features your phone can run |
| Server logs: IP address, time and the address requested | Security, preventing abuse, and fixing problems |
We don't collect contacts, health data, browsing history, or advertising identifiers, and the app has no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking code.
3. How we use it
- To provide the app: store and sync your records across your devices and the people in your household.
- To send the notifications you choose, such as service reminders, recalls, insurance renewals and expiring documents.
- To check your vehicles for safety recalls.
- To answer questions and read notes or receipts with AI, only when you allow it (see Cloud AI).
- To keep the service secure, make backups, and fix problems.
- To reply when you contact us.
We don't use your information for advertising or profiling, we don't sell or rent it, and we don't use it for any new purpose without asking you first.
5. Cloud AI
Some features can use a cloud AI service: asking questions about your cars, diagnosing a problem, reading AI notes you type or say, and reading receipt photos. They only run when the household owner has turned cloud AI on and you've said yes when the app asks on your device. You can change your answer any time in Settings → Connections → Cloud AI.
When you use one of these features, we send the AI provider:
- what you typed or said, and any receipt photo you scan;
- the vehicle records needed to answer, such as vehicle details, mileage, fuel, service, parts and notes, and AI memory notes.
We never send your password, and we don't send your email address. Requests go from our server, so the provider doesn't see your device or IP address. The default provider is OpenRouter, which passes the request to the AI model's maker (currently Anthropic). These companies may process it outside Canada, under their own privacy policies.
6. What stays on your iPhone
- Face ID is handled by iOS. The app never sees or stores biometric data.
- Siri and Shortcuts answers, and AI notes read by Apple Intelligence, are worked out on your device.
- Speech is turned into text by Apple's speech recognition, on device where your iPhone supports it.
- Calendar events for reminders are added to your calendar on your device, only if you turn this on.
- A copy of your records is kept on the device so the app works offline. Signing out clears it.
7. Where it's stored
Your information is stored on our server in Ontario, Canada. Some of the services in section 4 (Cloudflare, Apple, Google, the AI provider) may process information in the United States or elsewhere. When that happens, it's protected by those companies' safeguards and may be subject to the laws of those countries, including access by their courts and authorities.
8. How long we keep it
- While your account is open, we keep your records so the app works.
- When you delete your account in the app, it's scheduled for 7 days later. Signing in during those 7 days cancels it. After that it's erased from the live server.
- If you leave a household, your login and personal details are erased. Records you logged for the household's cars stay with the household, labelled “Former member”.
- If a household owner deletes the household, every record, photo and receipt in it is erased, along with its members' access.
- Backups roll off on their own: database backups within 30 days, photo backups within 8 weeks, and off-site copies once 5 newer ones exist. We don't restore deleted accounts from backups except to recover from a disaster.
- Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting.
9. Security
We protect your information with safeguards suited to its sensitivity:
- All connections are encrypted (HTTPS/TLS), and the server sits behind Cloudflare's protection and rate limits.
- Passwords are stored only as strong one-way hashes. API keys and mail passwords are encrypted on the server.
- Photos and receipts are served only to signed-in people allowed to see that record.
- The app can be locked with Face ID, and you can sign out your other devices.
- Access to the server is limited to the developer.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach of security safeguards creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we'll tell you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as soon as possible, and keep a record of it, as PIPEDA requires.
10. Your rights and choices
- Access and correction. You can see and edit nearly everything in the app. Ask us for anything else we hold about you, and we'll answer within 30 days.
- A copy of your data. Household owners can export records from Settings → Export all data, or anyone can ask us.
- Deletion. Go to Settings → Delete account, or write to us.
- Withdraw consent. Turn off cloud AI, location, notifications or calendar access in the app or in iOS Settings at any time. Some features may then stop working.
To make a request, email privacy@azuredriver.com from the address on your account. We may ask you to confirm it's you.
11. Households
Azure Driver is built for sharing a garage. The household owner invites people and decides what each one can see and do, such as which cars and tabs they see, whether amounts are hidden, and whether trips are shared. Records you add to a shared car are visible to others with access to it. Your trips are private unless you choose to share them.
12. Children
Azure Driver is for drivers and vehicle owners, and isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
13. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how your information is used in a significant way, we'll tell you in the app or by email first, and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
14. Contact and complaints
Questions, requests or concerns: privacy@azuredriver.com. We'll do our best to sort things out.
If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
